Abstract Landscape India Edition 3/5 Linocut Print Nature Aubergine Green
Located in Norfolk, GB
There is a natural and raw understanding in Mukesh Sharma’s prints that both depict, and are influenced by, the Rajastani communities of his home town in rural India. In these Limited Edition fine-art prints, made over a period of twenty years, we are offered the colours of India’s ancient land, the textures, light and the patterns that are everywhere. In the patterns of the arable fields to the jali's (carved screens) in the architecture. This work is however not romantic nor nostalgic but shows a deeper rooted need to offer a visual heritage of place, of where the artist is from and the journey that he is taking. The results are both compelling and honest. Mukesh Sharma, Frenzy M1, Lino-cut chin- coll’e on German Ivory paper Edition: 3 of 5, 2005 Image size: 45 x 33 cm / Sheet size: 79 x 55 cm Unframed 'In this work in particular I feel that a true work of art is the creation of an experience from the interaction between the human self and the outside world' Mukesh Sharma's work: It is often in childhood that paths are set for what we will become. Mukesh Sharma hails from a rural, agricultural village in Rajasthan, India. His Father is a craftsman who fixed and mended farm machinery and understood the working parts in the processes. Sharma followed in his Father’s footsteps, as is often the case in Indian families, but his was not the machines of the fields but the presses of the printing studio. Like his Father, Mukesh Sharma is fascinated with understanding how things work and how he can manipulate the metal in his hands. It is not surprising then that his medium of choice is printing. One of the most physically challenging of all the practices, it can often be physically challenging as well as technical and detailed. In his youth, Sharma would draw with stones on walls and floors. He was lucky his family encouraged this and he is grateful for his early art-training at the Jaipur School of Art but it was at the Baroda Art Department that he was introduced to the great printing traditions of Jyoti Bhatt...

Knots in Green, Monotype/Paper, 20 x 20, Venezuelan Artist, Geometric Abstract
Located in Houston, TX
Knots in Green: Monotype on archival paper Size: 20 x 20 by South American/Venezuelan artist Luisa Duarte is an example of geometric abstract art . Luisa Duarte works out of her studio in Houston, Texas. Price is unframed. Price for frame can be quoted and turn around from wholesale frame is approximately 3 weeks or less. Luisa Duarte’s works has a strong connection with her Latin American roots, with special focus in the geometrical abstract movement, a movement adopted by Latin America during the late 50’s. It was very prominent in Venezuela. Probably the most prominent collection of geometric abstract art was given to MOMA by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros who now resides in the USA. Her works are focused on explorations of shapes, lines , color and also on memories of her childhood in a promising country. Those memories are transformed into dynamic works invoking good energies to bring back what we have lost. In these complex geometrical systems, objects intersect, merge and collide, producing negative spaces that call the viewer to attention. In some cases, the almost imperceptibly off-kilter placement of geometrical elements within a composition speaks to her emphasis on relationships - the objects always exist in relationship to each other. There is a constant interest in constructing and deconstructing, and the consideration of endless juxtapositions. There are other works by Luisa Duarte available on 1stdibs and can be found by searching her name. Ensamble armónico 1 (Harmonic Ensemble 1), 2022, (1/1) Monotype (linocut and chine collé on paper) Unframed dimensions: 10 x 10 inches Framed dimensions: 18 x 18 inches This monotype (one-of-a-kind artwork) comes framed using mahogany wood and is signed by the artist. Claudia Martínez Lanz (b. 1957, Mexico City) is a multi-disciplinary artist primarily focused on experimental techniques related to printmaking, painting and ceramics. Martínez Lanz finds her inspiration in nature, and more recently, she’s been exploring themes as diverse as art, music and mathematics from passages found in the Gödel, Escher, Bach book. Martínez Lanz often develops her own materials, incorporates found-objects in her work, and experiments with new techniques based on trial and error. Her work is continuously seeking a dialogue with the materials that she transforms. Beauty, order, form and color are her go-to elements to find a feeling or an emotion which is the main goal of her work. Trained as a graphic designer, Martínez Lanz eventually discovered her true passion and became an artist. She has studied several disciplines in the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, San Carlos and other institutions. She’s had several renowned teachers including Luis Nishizawa...

So, I wanted to try doing that with just using light instead of paints - however I soon started to see the similarities with Harold Edgerton’s famous atomic explosion photos and how the scale of my work could be switched between small items on a shelf to enormous atomic explosions. That is the reason behind the strange title ATO MIC - where the “ ” is a kind of link between larger and smaller scales, between the two influencing ideas.” – Mike G Jackson The images (from the ATO MIC series) may be reminiscent of the first milliseconds of atomic bomb explosions captured by Harold Edgerton's Rapatronic camera in the early 1950s but also visualise the thought of Maholy-Nagy’s bold visions in the Bauhaus’s movement toward the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk, or “total work of art.” The 3D concepts that were first expanded in the same art movement by El Lissitzky a hundred years ago, are also explored here by Jackson’s drowned thin line within the third of the image. In his vision, the line reflects a shelf with the object on top, by adding the weight to it, the gravity pushing them down. Or maybe the thin line is just the horizon, where the enormous atomic blast took place…? Beyond these flat forms of two dimensional ‘lumino-graphic’ works on paper, the purest form of photography (‘light drawing’) lays a visible path to three-dimensional imaginary world, realised in precise composition, rhythm and warm earthy tones of these works. It’s up to the viewer to decide what they prefer to see and take with them. As Wassily Kandinsky once said; “Imagination is what allows your mind to discover.” About the Artist: Michael G Jackson...

However, it is that simplicity that allows Jackson to adapt his own way of thinking into the making of the finished piece. As he says, it's as close as he can get in photography to painting. "I don't really see photography and pottery or painting or music to really be different to each other. Some are more immediate, some are more subtle. Music seems to be able to control emotions, photography seems to create a satisfying pleasure from just a tonal flat surface. Same with painting. One of the biggest mysteries for me is why all these things manage to control us in some way." - Michael G Jackson...

ATO MIC #10, Unique Silver Luminogram Print, Abstract geometry in warm tones
Located in London, GB
ATO MIC #10, 2020 Unique Gelatin Silver Print/ Luminogram and Photogram technique, Printed on tea infused fibre based paper, Framed: custom made frame with anti-reflective art glass Print size: 23 x 18 cm Framed: 38 x 35.5 cm Unique Series: ATO MIC Signed and dated in pencil on print's verso Certificate of Authenticity provided "At first glance the viewer may only see geometric spherical shapes with added lines and rectangles on tea toned Silver Gelatin paper. "The supremacy of pure artistic feeling" rather than the visual depiction of objects assign to the art movement of Suprematism comes to one's mind. Similarly, like a giant of abstract art Kasimir Malevich, Jackson wants the viewer to look further, deeper than one might usually. The feeling of 'sensation' of the ATO MIC prints, the sharpness of the forms, the intensity defying its size to condensed 9 x 7 inches' paper, make it all the more dramatic to look at. It takes the viewer to another level of fantastical world of creation." Abstract fauna of Akule Hawaiian Fish, Hand Printed Silver Gelatin Luminograms
Located in London, GB
"The play of water and light has fascinated me for years. From childhood I have found sunlight underwater mesmerising - be it a Cornish rock pool or The Red Sea, the movement and diffraction of light excites me. Add to that the thrill of schools of fish - specifically Akule, which are found in seas off Hawaii. I spent some time wanting to make a series of prints that captured the play of light on these fast moving fish - creating flowing abstract forms and textures." - Mike G Jackson The goal isn't to replicate the real world - it is to show where the real world and the process meet - sometimes pushing towards the real world, sometimes pushing towards the process - but never completely at either extreme. - Michael G Jackson Michael Jackson (b.1966) is an experimental photographer based in North Dorset, England. He studied art at West Dean College in Sussex, then apprenticed under landscape painter Christopher W Baker and later discovered his passion for photography. He moved away from working with traditional camera techniques in 2015 and is currently progressing the Luminogram process into new directions in which he has become regarded as a leading practitioner. His work has been exhibited internationally and is part of various private and museum collections including The National Art Gallery in Washington, USA. Selected Press: “Mike Jackson...
