Deconstructed and cropped images of a turntable, a cassette tape, and a mid century modern chair are represented on 12 x 12 inch Red River photo paper in vivid hues of pink, blue and green in Patty deGrandpre’s contemporary abstract monoprint titled “Sit and Listen”. Embracing both experimental printmaking and creative photography, applications of block printing ink and digital inkjet are skillfully multi layered onto the media to create a dynamic graphic interlacing of whimsical shapes, color blocked forms, negative space and pictures. deGrandpre’s prints evolve from the vast catalog of photographs of common objects and scenes from her life. The imagery not only serves as visual content for deGrandpre’s artwork but as a tool for the artist to document and recall moments in her life. Patty deGrandpre
Patty deGrandpre is a New Mexico based artist. She received her BFA in Visual Design at Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1987. Her studio is in her home in Lamy, New Mexico. She has participated in many shows, both juried and invitational, at local, regional and national levels. In addition to three solo exhibitions, she has received accolades and awards over the years in both Fine Art and Printmaking.
