About the Item
"29th Salon de la Société des Artistes Décorateurs et Salon de la Lumière" depicts a Parisian city scene. Created by Raoul Dufy as the poster for the combination exhibition of works by members of the Society of Decorative Artists and the Salon of Light to confirm the triumph of the artistic and modern role of electricity. Plate 27 of Les Affiches Originales, printed in 1959 by Fernand Mourlot. Rich, dense lead inks keep this lithograph looking spectacular.
Raoul Dufy (French, 1877-1953) was a French Fauvist artist and designer known for brightly colored and highly decorative scenes. Works by Dufy can be found in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
"...Fernand Mourlot has been synonymous with the resurgence of lithography – a process which under his influence, attracted the greatest artistic masters of our time. The medium provided a new avenue of expression, a new realm of possibilities for the likes of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Braque, Dubuffet, Léger, and Giacometti to enrich their own work as well as fine art in general. Under the guidance of Mourlot, modern lithography developed a personality and discovered a future." (Mourlot Editions)
