This striking large hand painted limited Edition is No. 1 of only 10 in existence. 80% of the painting is hand-painted in oil and gesso on giclee by Shizico Yi, the edition featuring her signature expressive brushstrokes and hand-mixed colours. It is signed both on the front and on the back label.
Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s legendary poem Do not go gentle into that good night, this painting is a celebration of life in its maturity and ageing.
At its centre is Rosa Albertine—an old English rose that blooms only once each early summer, offering a brief, glorious moment of festivity and fragrance. To Shizico, it is a living symbol of a life fully lived.
The painting was created en plein air in the artist’s own garden, where she planted Rosa Albertine in 2016 as a tribute before the passing of her beloved dog, Favor. These rare, once-a-year blooming roses became a yearly reminder of those cherished summers they shared. With every bloom, she is transported back to those days filled with love, scent, and sunlight.
This work captures that memory—a moment of loss, beauty, and profound connection—frozen tenderly in time.
-Each edition in this series is entirely hand-crafted by Shizico Yi. She hand-mixes every colour, paints each piece individually, and completes them with a final varnish before they are delivered to the collector. Because every edition is painted by hand, subtle variations in colour, texture, and detail naturally arise—making each work a semi-original, unique in its own right. This level of individual attention and artistry for making editions is exceptionally rare in the contemporary art market, and stands as one of Shizico’s most generous and personal offerings to her collectors.

About the Artist:
Dr. Shizico Yi is a London based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
