About the Item

“Carrier Pigeon,” 2012, Limited edition silkscreen print by Baltimore street artist Gaia. Three-color hand-pulled silkscreen on Coventry Rag, 100% Cotton Archival Paper. Edition 25/135. Signed and numbered by the artist. Size: 22 x 28 inches. Offered unframed. Ships rolled. Best known for his large-scale murals worldwide, Gaia uses animal imagery to underscore his interest in bringing nature to urban landscapes. “Carrier Pigeon,’ captures Gaia’s iconic imagery and integrates a backdrop similar to the backdrops of many of his real-life murals. The artist hand-painted the image in layers to create the detailed pigeon using India ink, acrylic paint, and paint markers. About featuring pigeons in his work, Gais says, “The carrier pigeon perched within a hand is an image I have revisited many times in the past year. Much like the hybridized creatures I have produced in the past, this gesture displays a moment of domination and submission, as well as steward and nature. Pigeons are beautiful creatures and are among the few to tolerate the city. This print is a celebration of a dying urban spot and of an unsung animal.” limited edition print, animal print, bird print, black and white print, monochromatic print, silkscreen, silkscreen print, black and white art, print, street art, graffiti artist, street artist, urban art, wall decoration, wall art, still life, animal, bird, limited edition, home decor, print

Bremen #2 - Black and white figurative drawing on paper
By Andy Mister
Located in East Quogue, NY
Photorealistic black and white drawing of rock concert goers - Graphite on paper by Andy Mister. Offered framed. The work of Andy Mister explores the boundary between mechanical and manual reproduction. Working with images appropriated from vintage photographs and deftly mimicking the Xerox aesthetic of punk zines and album covers, removing their specific historical context. Mister’s drawings question how meaning is created or lost through the act of “copying.” Mister says of the arrangement of his images, “It's something like my bedroom as a teenager, filled with images clipped from magazines: bands or writers that I admired interspersed with random images I found aesthetically interesting. I am interested in the relationship between images and connections that the viewer creates when encountering them, connections that I cannot control.” Andy Mister received a BA in English Literature and Philosophy from Loyola University of New Orleans, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. His artwork has been exhibited at Hirschl & Adler Modern, Turn Gallery, Joshua Liner Gallery, Morgan Lehman Gallery...
