About Chris Ofili:
Chris Ofili is a British painter and sculptor (born 10 October 1968) who has already been awarded the prestigious Turner Prize. As a so-called Young British Artist, he is known for his original, colourful contemporary works.
The central source of inspiration for Ofili are historical and cultural elements, which form a fundamental basis of communication in his works. Using exuberant stylistic devices, the artist reexamines fixed notions of beauty and challenges the boundaries of artistic decency.
As a student, the artist travelled through Zimbabwe.
1988 to 1991 studies at the Chelsea School of Art in London.
1993 Masters at the University of Art and Design Royal College of Art.
Resident in Port of Spain, Trinidad since 2005.
His work has been the subject of two monographic exhibitions: the first at Tate Britain in 2010 and the second at the New Museum in 2014. The Museum of Modern Art was one of the first museums to include one of Ofili's paintings in its collection: it acquired Prince among Thieves in 1999.
