This signed and numbered lithograph (edition of 300) by Davis Cone is printed on Arches paper and bears the raised printer’s blind stamp in the lower left corner. The work features the iconic Variety Photoplays theater, once located at 110 Third Avenue in New York City. Originally opened as a nickelodeon in the early 20th century, the theater evolved with the city’s shifting cultural landscape—later operating as an adult film venue before being converted into an off-Broadway theater. In 2005, the building was demolished, marking the end of an era in New York’s entertainment history. Cone captures this layered history through a cinematic lens, preserving a vanished landmark that once embodied the changing spirit of downtown Manhattan. The piece not only serves as a visually compelling work of art, but also as a document of New York urban memory, making it especially significant for collectors of cultural and architectural history.
