Napoleon I Dragoon of the Imperial Guard on Horseback, French Military Print This original 19th-century hand-coloured military print depicts a Dragoon of the Imperial Guard serving under Emperor Napoleon I, shown mounted on horseback in full ceremonial and campaign uniform. The scene represents one of the elite cavalry units of Napoleon’s Grande Armée, renowned for discipline, strength, and their prominent role in both battlefield action and imperial pageantry. The print originates from *Histoire de l’Empereur Napoléon* by P.-M. Laurent de l’Ardèche, illustrated after designs by Horace Vernet and published in Paris in 1843. Although issued decades after the events, the series is widely regarded for its historically accurate rendering of Napoleonic uniforms, equipment, and military bearing. Vernet, the foremost painter of Napoleonic subjects, drew upon first-hand military knowledge and contemporary sources to recreate the imperial army with precision and authority.
