A fine, richly-inked impression, on cream laid paper, with full margins (1 3/8 to 1 3/4 inches), in excellent condition. “The interior of my first studio in Cornwall, Connecticut.” –Armin Landeck Reproduced: 'American Master Prints' from the Betty and Douglas Duffy Collection, the trust for museum exhibitions Washington, D.C., 1987. Impressions of this work are in the permanent collections of the following institutions: Cornell University Library, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Terra Foundation. ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in Wisconsin, Armin Landeck (1903-1984) was educated in New York at Columbia University School of Architecture. He made his first etching in 1927 and from that time on dedicated himself to printmaking. A trip to Europe in 1928-29 broadened his knowledge of graphic art techniques, and after his return to New York City, he joined with Martin Lewis and George Miller to found the School for Printmakers at Miller’s Fourteenth Street Studio. The subjects of Landeck’s work and his precise draftsmanship are informed by his architectural training but unlike other precisionist work of the period, his scenes of New York City are imbued with a soft, painterly quality and a luminous sense of space and light. During his acclaimed career, Landeck was awarded fifteen honors for printmaking including awards from National Academy of Design (1969), Guggenheim Fellowship (1962), Society of American Graphic Artists, and Boston Printmakers (1984). Landeck’s prints are held in numerous public and museum collections including the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Georgetown University Library, High Museum of Art, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Indiana University Art Museum, Joslyn Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Yale University Art Gallery.
