About the Item

A vibrant celebration of Taos life and culture, Saturday Morning (Market, Taos Plaza, New Mexico) is a striking 1950s modernist linocut print by acclaimed New Mexico artist Barbara Latham. The composition depicts a bustling Taos Pueblo market, complete with a horse and cart, Native American figures, traditional adobe buildings, and the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains rising beyond. With dynamic lines and a keen sense of rhythm, Latham captures the warmth and movement of everyday life in Taos, preserving a vivid glimpse of the postwar Southwest. Presented in a custom archival frame with UV-protective glass, the print’s outer dimensions are 16 x 17¾ inches; image size: 8½ x 10½ inches. Born in Massachusetts and trained at the Pratt Institute and Art Students League, Barbara Latham became a central figure in the Taos art colony, alongside her husband Howard Cook. Known for her expressive Southwestern prints and genre scenes, Latham combined modernist abstraction with intimate depictions of community life. Her work, held in major collections across the U.S., continues to celebrate the enduring beauty and spirit of the American Southwest.
