My work is mainly abstract, I would say abstract expressionism. I love painting with oils, they give me many possibilities I do not find in other mediums. When working with collages on paper or wood I use acrylics, ink, cuttings of photographic work I prepare. These work result in surrealism which I also love! Sometimes I alternate and get inspired by my own different work. Painting is for me a way to enjoy color, enjoy the process and compositions I make always have a start in nature, mostly flowers, skies or the ocean. I do photography and sketches that later on I transform in my paintings. The series “Reflections” is inspired on duality. We live in a world of polarities: cold-hot, up-down, strong-weak. My art precedes the concept, enjoying the process. Playing with colors and forms is the goal, even though there is always a moment of anguish when I do not know where to continue, then the painting itself tells me where to go. A work is finished when I consider that continuing it will change it. I consider myself heir of Matisse, Cezanne, Miro and their "painting for pleasure". I also admire the german expressionism, and Klee and Klimt are dear to me. Cecilia Arrospide
Cecilia studied Social Studies and Literature at Universidad Catolica del Peru, Drawing with Cristina Galvez, Watercolors with Juan Pastorelli. She then worked with Leslie Lee, present Director of the Escuela de Bellas Artes del Peru, and Miguel Nieri, professor of the Escuela de Bellas Artes del Peruand now of the Fine Arts Faculty of Universidad Catolica del Peru for more than 15 years. Cecilia first solo exhibition was in 1998, accumulating up to date six, the second one in 2000 and two in the year 2005, of which one was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In february 2007 she presented "El Mar, Las Olas" and in december 2008 "De Siluetas y Sombrillas". In August 2010 she presented “Espacios Temporales” y en November 2011 “Metáforas”Cecilia has also presented many collective exhibitions as from 1993 in Peru, USA, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Argentina and Spain.
