Signed and dated on the left lower margin of the plate: “Corn. Dusart fe. 1685”. On Netherlandish watermarked paper. Very good conditions.

Cornelis Dusart (Haarlem, 1660 - 1704), Netherlandish painter and engraver, apprentice of Adriaen van Ostade, he was accepted by the Corporation of Saint Luca of Harleem in 1679. Remarkable his detailed artworks of ordinary peasant life.

Cornelis Dusart
Cornelis Dusart was a Dutch genre painter, draftsman and printmaker. He was born in Haarlem. Dusart was a pupil of Adriaen van Ostade from about 1675–79 and was accepted into the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1679. His works are similar in style and subject to those of his mentor.

Concerning the provenances of this etching:
Hans von und zu Aufsess (1801-1872) was a great book lover and also a major collector of Old Master prints. He was one of the founders, in 1852, of the Germanisches Museum in Nürnberg and was that museum’s director until 1862. Mas Menge (died in 1945) was a famous violinist and also a major collector of Old Master prints and drawings.

Jan Frans van Bloemen (baptized 12 May 1662 - buried 13 June 1749) was a Flemish landscape painter mainly active in Rome. Here he was able to establish himself as the leading painter of views (vedute) of the Roman countryside depicted in the aesthetic of the classical landscape tradition.
Van Bloemen predominantly painted classical landscapes, taking his inspiration from the Roman Campagna. His landscapes, with their recession through a series of planes, soft, warm lightning and classical and religious subject matter, drew on the examples of artists such as Claude Lorrain and Gaspard Dughet. His paintings are exquisitely imbued with that "difficult-to-define pastoral ambience" which helped to make him such a great painter in the eyes of his contemporaries.
