About the Item

This exquisite lithograph and pochoir after Eugene Delacroix (1798–1863), titled Enfant nu (Nude child), originates from the 1968 folio Visages d Enfants. Quinze Dessins de Durer a Dufy Appartenant aux Collections des Musees Nationaux, issued in 1968, represents a landmark achievement in Parisian printmaking devoted to the faithful translation of historic master drawings into modern pochoir and lithographic form. Conceived and published by Daniel Jacomet in collaboration with Editions Artistiques et Documentaires, the album inaugurated a series dedicated to rendering canonical drawings with exceptional fidelity to line, tone, and original intent. Jacomets atelier was internationally respected for its rigorous technical standards and scholarly approach, bridging museum collections and contemporary print culture through meticulous craftsmanship. By uniting works spanning centuries and artistic traditions, the publication reflects a curatorial vision rooted in preservation, education, and aesthetic continuity. Produced in strictly limited examples, including a small number outside the trade, it exemplifies the highest standards of mid twentieth century Parisian printmaking and remains valued for its role in transmitting the legacy of master draftsmanship to collectors, institutions, and scholars. About the Artist: Eugene Delacroix (1798–1863) was a French painter whose dramatic imagination, revolutionary use of color, and emotional intensity established him as the defining figure of Romanticism and one of the most consequential artists in the history of Western art, fundamentally reshaping painting by liberating it from Neoclassical restraint and infusing it with movement, passion, and psychological depth. Deeply inspired by Old Masters such as Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, and Paolo Veronese, as well as by literature, music, travel, and contemporary political events, Delacroix transformed history painting, literary subjects, and so called exotic themes into vehicles for expressive force and symbolic meaning, producing masterpieces such as Liberty Leading the People that redefined the relationship between art and modern life. His lifelong rivalry and intellectual dialogue with Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres crystallized the nineteenth century debate between line and color, reason and emotion, a dialectic that propelled European art toward modernism. Delacroix bold chromatic experimentation, dynamic composition, and visible brushwork directly informed the evolution of later movements, with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray studying his work as a crucial bridge between classical tradition and radical innovation. Revered by the Impressionists, Symbolists, and early modernists, Delacroix enduring influence extends across painting, sculpture, and conceptual art, securing his position as a cornerstone of museum collections worldwide and a perpetual reference point for artists seeking emotional and symbolic power. His lasting market strength is underscored by his highest auction record, achieved in May 2018 when Lion Hunt sold for approximately 13.3 million USD at Sothebys New York.
