The print shows an elderly woman, solemnly reading or examining family documents, which she holds in her hands under dim light. The figure is rendered in deep chiaroscuro, with dramatic contrasts of light and shadow — a hallmark of Ribot’s painting style, which was strongly influenced by Spanish Baroque masters like Francisco de Zurbarán.
