HERMAN VOLZ (Swiss/American 1904 - 1990) THE PARTISAN, 1937 Lithograph, signed and no. in pencil. Edition 30. 10 1/2 x 14. Sheet 11 1/4 x 17 1/2" Generally good condition aside from very narrow top margin just above the image edge, with a deckle. Good margins, sides and bottom. Small repaired tear at the left sheet edge. A few minor surface inking irregularities. Provenance: Directly from the estate of the artist. A powerful Labor image. Based on Volz painting of 1934 commemorating the San Francisco Waterfront Strike of 1934. The Achenbach Foundation in San Francisco has a preliminary watercolor study for the print.
