About the Item

Jonas Wood Fish Pot; Matisse Pot 4; Snoopy Pot, 2019-20 Signed, dated and numbered by the artist Three separate colour screenprints each on Rising Museum Board Each 34 x 32 inches 86.3 x 81.3 cm Edition of 50, with matching numbers Basketballs, ceramics, and lush plants fill Jonas Wood’s paintings, drawings, and prints, which mostly comprise intricate still lifes and interior domestic scenes. Throughout his compositions, the artist draws from art history, memory, and the people, objects, and interiors that compose the fabric of his life (the ceramics, in fact, reference the practice of Shio Kusaka, the artist to whom Wood is married; Kusaka draws from Wood’s work, as well). Inspired by artists including David Hockney and Alex Katz, Wood embraces bright palettes, detailed patterns, and flattened forms. He has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Beirut. His work can be found in the collections of the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among other institutions. At auction, Wood’s works have sold for seven-figure prices.

Located in Aventura, FL
Screen printed vacuum-formed plexiglass multiple in colors mounted to a card support. Artist signature, date and edition lower left front. Edition 12/101. Artwork is in excellent condition. All reasonable offers will be considered. About the Artist: Tom Wesselmann (1931–2004) was an American Pop artist best known for his collages, sculptures, and screenprints that stylized the female figure. Often isolating segments of the body—red lips with a cigarette, a single nipple, or a stylish shoe—his artworks aim was to seize a viewer’s attention. “The prime mission of my art, in the beginning, and continuing still, is to make figurative art as exciting as abstract art,” he once said of his work. Born on February 23, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in the Korean War in 1952. Returning home after the war, he studied drawing at the Art Academy of Cincinnati before working as an illustrator of comic strips and men’s magazines...
