Beautiful Artist’s Proof, representing the myth of Narcissius and the nymph Eco, draw by "the Metamorphosis" by Publio Ovidio Nasone.
This aquatint, by Ludovico Caracciolo (engraver), reproduces an artwork by the French painter Claude Lorrain (draftsman). Signed on plate lower “Claudio di Lorena inv., L. Caracciolo F.”.
Plate 2, from the print suite “Liber Veritatis”, Rome, F. Bourliè, 1815. Title at the centre lower, lightly faded.
In Good condition, except a usual burnishing in margins and some ink stains lower margin due to a faulty cleaning of the plate. Including Passepartout.

Ludovico Caracciolo
Ludovico Caracciolo was a Roman landscapist and engraver, specialized in architectural drawings and panoramas of the Eternal City. Caracciolo loved traveling and drawing the most beautiful scenes he saw along the way. He became a protégé of Elizabeth Foster, the second wife of the fifth Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish. He published a full set of print reproductions after Claude Lorrain's Liber Veritatis published in Rome in 1815 by Francesco Bourlié.
