Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), We thank Mrs. Suzanne Ribemont-Dessaignes and Éditions Gallimard, which allowed us to reissue the text that Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes devoted to his friend Man Ray in 1930, published the same year in the collection "Peintres nouveaux" This reissue, with the forewords of Jean Cassou and Maurice Nadeau, accompanies the exhibition, “Déjà jadis: Autour de Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, un écrivain et ses amis,” designed and produced under the direction of Henri Maccheroni, at the Villa Arson, Centre National des Arts Plastiques à Nice. This book, printed after the model of Claude Mézier, is printed in M examples, all numbered. Finished printing on the presses of l'imprimerie Mussot in Paris, on September 28, 1984.
MAN RAY (1890-1976) was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in Paris. He was a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal. He produced major works in a variety of media but considered himself a painter above all. He was best known for his pioneering photography, and was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. He is also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" in reference to himself.
