Flights of Fancy is an original signed limited edition (060/250 ) lithograph by Michel Pellus showing a man in a top hat floating in the sky in a hot air balloon, another top hatted man in the sky on a carousel horse and holding an umbrella and two children in a floating car. there is a castle in the background and a flaoting walkway leading to the castle. This original lithograph is in good condition.
Michel Pellus (1945- ) born in Montreal is a self-taught artist specializing in oils and printmaking.His early works were characterized by humor, optimism and symbolism. Realistic figures were set in fantasy landscapes giving a sense of cosmic duality. Pellus has coined the term subjective realism to describe this style of painting. ” My work is a visual poem. I seek to capture a moment in time that particular moment- not the moment before, nor the moment after” Michel Pellus. From the realism of his early works, fantasy slowly emerged. Another quote from Pellus… ‘I was working on a painting [Le Cliché) of a kid looking out a window. I just tried to imagine how a kid might see the world outside.” That led to lemon-drop bushes, grape-colored clouds, and highways floating in midair, leading to castles in the clouds. In the late 1970s he lived in New York City’s SoHo before moving to remote Elizabeth Island in the Bahamas. In the late 1980s, he settled in South Florida where he works today. Michel Pellus’ paintings have been exhibited widely and can be found in many private and public collections, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and have been on display at the Louvre in Paris, France. His works have been featured in publications such as Florida Design Magazine, Art of the Times Magazine and The Palm Beach Post.
