Designed by Milton Glaser on the occasion of the San Diego Jazz Festival, a Pacific Coast event depicted with a suit-and-sandal clad bear at dusk. Several favorite Glaserisms show up here: the swirling contours, the loose cross-hatching and the saxophone.

Very good overall vintage condition with the exception of perhaps some minor signs of handling.
A suit-and-sandal bear heralds this Pacific Coast event with a serenade with a beautiful sunset. Several favorite Glaserisms show up here: the swirling contours, the loose cross-hatching and the sax.

Milton Glaser Posters
Legendary graphic designer, illustrator, and art director Milton Glaser created some of the most recognizable iconography in America today —including the iconic I ♥ N Y logo —and countless posters and ad campaigns. Glaser changed the face of commercial art in the 1960s and ’70s, breaking with the conventions of modernism and drawing inspiration from a wide variety of art-historical and pop-cultural sources, from Art Nouveau to comic illustration and Chinese drawings. As a co-founder of New York magazine, Glaser designed its signature header, and his brightly colored illustrations graced dozens of glossy magazine covers. His promotional poster for _Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hit_s —a simple silhouette of the artist’s head with a colorful mop of thick, wavy hair —was endlessly reproduced, and its psychedelic aesthetic came to define late ’60s visual culture.

Milton Glaser
Milton Glaser may be best known for a 1977 doodle that became his hometown’s unofficial slogan: I ♥️ NY. But the Bronx-born graphic designer had many other successes during his nearly 70-year career, including iconic posters and prints and cofounding the groundbreaking design firm Push Pin Studios.
In the 1950s, American graphics tended toward a Swiss-influenced precision. Glaser, however, pulled from the whole of art history for his designs, inspired by his studies with the painter Giorgio Morandi while on a Fulbright scholarship in 1952. His famous Bob Dylan poster, a landmark of the psychedelic age, was inspired by a Marcel Duchamp self-portrait and the jewel-like colors of Islamic art.
A cofounder of New York magazine, Glaser went on to design for scores of other publications, and in 2009 he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
In an instance of life imitating art, Glaser was asked to create the promotional posters for the final season of Mad Men, which aired in 2014 and 2015. “I could have walked in the door of that firm,” the designer told the New York Times of the fictional Sterling Cooper Partners. “I knew those people.”
“There are three responses to a piece of design — yes, no and wow!” he said. “Wow is the one to aim for.” Glaser rarely, if ever, missed the mark. He died of a stroke in 2020.

This impressively large 1971 lithograph - pencil signed and numbered from the limited edition of only 89, with a stacked LOVE drawing on the front - depicts Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE sculpture (from the permanent collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art) when it was exhibited at Central Park in New York City. This was the turn of the decade of the 1970s - during the height of the anti-Vietnam War protests of the Nixon Administration, when the presence of Indiana's monumental cor-ten steel LOVE in Central Park took on a much deeper significance in New York and indeed the country. This important print is pencil signed, dated and numbered by Robert Indiana from the very small edition of only 89. It also bears a drawing - a flourish - of the word LOVE written by the artist in pencil. Very few of the signed editions of this print remain -- so it is rarely seen on the market. Indeed, eighty nine (89) is a very small edition; however, this oversized print was used for promotional purposes in public places, so very few of the 89 signed and numbered works remain - let alone with the original stacked love drawing. .
