Norbert Matzdorf (1951 – 2013) After training as a typographer, he began studying "Free Painting" under Prof. Joseph Beuys at the Duesseldorf Academy in 1970. He later developed his skills self-taught.
His preferred working techniques have changed several times over the years. He initially worked with oil painting and paper collages. This was followed by experimentation with photography and various printing techniques such as screen printing and etching. Objects and material collages were created through his exploration of spatial representation. Drawing with ink pens and computers and painting with gouache and oil pastels led him to colored paper cutouts and objects. Experiments with black light and kinetics complement the rich palette.
The artist Norbert Matzdorf is inexhaustibly creative in the truest sense of the word, yet artistically independent and his work is of quality. Over the years he has developed his own style, within which he is constantly experimenting and inventing new things. His art is handwork - craftsmanship. He paints, draws, cuts out, and sticks on. A wide variety of colors and materials are used.
