The connection between Mourlot Studios and Pablo Picasso is one of the most significant collaborations in 20th-century printmaking. Mourlot, a renowned Parisian lithography studio founded in the 19th century, became a hub for modern artists in the mid-1900s. Picasso began working with Mourlot in the 1940s and developed a close, productive relationship with its master printers, particularly Fernand Mourlot. Fascinated by the expressive potential of lithography, Picasso created over 400 lithographs at the studio. Mourlot provided the technical expertise and experimental environment that allowed Picasso to innovate within the medium, making lithography a central part of his later artistic practice. Their collaboration helped elevate the art of the lithograph from commercial printing to a respected fine art form.
