PAUL KLEINSCHMIDT (German 1883 – 1949)
IN THE BATH HOUSE (In der Badestube) 1922
Drypoint, signed, dated and annotated “probedruck No. 3” (trial proof, No 3), 1922. Rich impression. 10 3/8 x 8 ½”. Large full margins, 8 3/8 x 12 3/4" with deckle edge.In generally good condition, small tape stain remnant along left sheet edge.
Kleinschmidt was a 2nd generation German Expressionist who worked in a style reminiscent of Max Beckmann, Lovis Corinth and his contemporary George Grosz.
His work was condemned by the Nazis as “Degenerate” in 1943. He was a fine painter as well.

A fine impression, on cream wove paper, with full margins (1 7/8 to 2 3/4 inches), in excellent condition. Image size 8 15/16 x 5 15/16 inches; sheet size 13 3/8 x 10 1/4 inches. Extremely rare. Matted to museum standards, unframed.
Probably created when Limbach was in Paris (1928-1934), where he was exposed to modernist printmaking explorations at Stanley William Hayter’s 'Atelier 17'.
