About the Item

Shepard Fairey Farms Not Factories (Farm Aid, Advocacy, Agricultural Justice) Screen Print on 80# Cream Speckletone paper Year: 2025 Size: 24 x 18 inches (60.96 x 45.72 cm) Edition: 500 Signed, dated and numbered by hand COA provided *Edition number may vary from the image shown. Created in celebration of Farm Aid’s 40th anniversary, Farms Not Factories reflects Shepard Fairey’s commitment to amplifying voices that often lack the resources and visibility of corporate power. Founded in 1985 by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, Farm Aid began as a concert-driven initiative to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to provide direct support to keep farming families on their land. The organization continues this mission through its annual music festival and advocacy efforts. In Farms Not Factories, Fairey contrasts the lived reality of independent farmers with the scale and dominance of corporate agriculture. The composition centers on a solitary farmhouse set within an expansive landscape, symbolizing both the isolation of independent farming and the resilience required to sustain it. Layered throughout the work are historical references, including imagery from Farm Aid–related rallies and archival newspaper clippings, embedded within torn collage elements that evoke decades of activism and collective struggle. While farming is often a solitary pursuit, Fairey underscores the central message of Farm Aid: that through solidarity and shared advocacy, farmers can work together to protect their interests rather than be overwhelmed by industrial-scale operations. The artwork functions as both visual narrative and call to action, encouraging continued engagement with Farm Aid’s mission and support for sustainable, independent agriculture. Target Exceptions Signed and Numbered Screenprint
By Shepard Fairey
Located in Draper, UT
Shepard Fairey's "Target Exceptions" print offers a poignant reflection on the challenges faced by individuals aspiring to visit or immigrate to the United States. Through this thought-provoking artwork, Fairey delves into the complexities of the immigration process, shedding light on the various target criteria that determine the eligibility of potential candidates. In a world where the "American Dream" beckons as a symbol of hope and opportunity, Fairey's piece reminds us that many deserving individuals are deemed exceptions to the established qualifications, particularly in the context of prevailing attitudes and policies of the current administration. The artwork presents a striking visual featuring Fairey's iconic style, using a blend of powerful imagery and symbolic elements to convey its message. By drawing attention to the dichotomy between the desired dream and the restrictive reality, "Target Exceptions" calls for empathy and understanding towards those affected by such immigration hurdles. Shepard Fairey's reputation as a contemporary artist and graphic designer precedes him. Born on February 15, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina, Fairey has gained global recognition for his profound influence on modern art and activism. His commitment to addressing political and social issues through his work has earned him a prominent position within the art world. Fairey's artistic journey began with street art and has evolved into a diverse body of work that seamlessly blends political messaging, pop culture references, and iconic symbolism. As a co-founder of Studio Number One and the art collective BLK/MRKT Inc., Shepard Fairey continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression and its capacity to inspire change. His work has been exhibited worldwide, making a lasting impact on both art enthusiasts and social activists alike. Shepard Fairey's art is rooted in a blend of influences that shape its distinctive character. His early experiences with street art and punk culture have left an indelible mark on his style, infusing it with a rebellious spirit and DIY ethos. Additionally, Fairey draws inspiration from the world of propaganda and political messaging, referencing historical movements like Soviet Constructivism and Chinese Cultural Revolution art...
