About the Item

Shepard Fairey No More Bias Screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper Year: 2021 (released 2023) Size: 24 x 36 inches (61.0 × 91.4 cm) Signed by Shepard Fairey, numbered and dated by hand COA provided *Edition number may vary from the image shown. Shepard Fairey created No More Bias in response to the persistent and systemic realities of racial bias and police brutality in the United States. While the print was conceived prior to the killing of Tyre Nichols, Fairey has acknowledged that Nichols’ death—following the brutal beating by Memphis police officers—tragically underscores the very injustices the work seeks to confront. Fairey has addressed racial bias and abuses of power in law enforcement throughout his career, and this work reflects the complexity of those issues, including the ways institutional bias can operate regardless of the race of the individuals involved. The circumstances surrounding Nichols’ death, as well as other recent cases such as Elijah McClain, echo a broader pattern of disproportionate policing and violence against Black Americans. Statistical evidence consistently demonstrates that Black motorists and pedestrians are more than twice as likely to be stopped, questioned, and searched than white citizens, despite the fact that searches of white individuals more frequently result in the discovery of contraband. Unarmed Black citizens are also significantly more likely to be killed by police than unarmed white citizens. These realities challenge commonly cited justifications of “probable cause” and point to systemic failures in accountability and oversight. No More Bias calls for meaningful reform in police culture and governance, advocating for equity, transparency, and justice. A portion of the proceeds from this print supports the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) and its work advancing racial justice, economic justice, and the protection of human rights for the most vulnerable members of society. No More Bias print, Tyre Nichols response art, police brutality artwork, racial bias in policing, anti-police violence art, social justice print, Equal Justice Initiative support, accountability in law enforcement, protest printmaking, contemporary civil rights art, anti-racism artwork, Elijah McClain reference, abuse of power critique, human rights advocacy art, activist screenprint Shepard Fairey, OBEY Giant, political street art, contemporary protest art, activist printmaking, social justice imagery, graphic design influence, counterculture art, human rights focused art, socially engaged contemporary art
