Susan Davidoff's lithographs are part of an ongoing exploration of natural structures, and the systems developed for observing, mapping, and defining these forms and phenomena.
Her series originated from experiencing rapidly shifting daylight during late summer at a far northern latitude, where retreating light and advancing shadows moved quickly enough to vividly illustrate the shortening daylight hours.
Upon returning to the desert, Davidoff began a series of night walks. The limited area illuminated by her flashlight and the surrounding shadows recalled the sensation of traversing a landscape where daylight rapidly disappeared, signaling the approach of winter.
