Napoleon I Dragoon of the Imperial Guard on Horseback, Military Print, 1843
Located in Langweer, NL
Napoleon I Dragoon of the Imperial Guard on Horseback, French Military Print This original 19th-century hand-coloured military print depicts a Dragoon of the Imperial Guard serving under Emperor Napoleon I, shown mounted on horseback in full ceremonial and campaign uniform. The scene represents one of the elite cavalry units of Napoleon’s Grande Armée, renowned for discipline, strength, and their prominent role in both battlefield action and imperial pageantry. The print originates from *Histoire de l’Empereur Napoléon* by P.-M. Laurent de l’Ardèche, illustrated after designs by Horace Vernet and published in Paris in 1843. Although issued decades after the events, the series is widely regarded for its historically accurate rendering of Napoleonic uniforms, equipment, and military bearing. Vernet, the foremost painter of Napoleonic subjects, drew upon first-hand military knowledge and contemporary sources to recreate the imperial army with precision and authority. The Dragoon is shown wearing the distinctive helmet with horsehair crest, green and white uniform with yellow facings, tall riding boots, and full accoutrements, including saber, musket, and rolled equipment. The powerful horse and poised posture emphasize the mobility and striking presence of the Imperial Guard cavalry, a formation personally associated with Napoleon and symbolic of his rule. The clean background and restrained landscape focus attention on uniform detail, making this an especially strong decorative and documentary example. Such prints were intended both as historical record and patriotic tribute, celebrating Napoleon I and the military structure that supported his empire. Today, they are highly sought after by collectors of Napoleonic history, French military art...

Napoleonic Carabinier 1805, Imperial Guard Heavy Cavalry Print, 1843
Located in Langweer, NL
Napoleonic Carabinier 1805, Imperial Guard Heavy Cavalry Print Description: This original hand-coloured 19th-century engraving depicts a Carabinier of the French heavy cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars, dated 1805, at the height of Napoleon Bonaparte’s imperial power. Shown standing beside his horse in full service uniform, the figure represents one of the most elite and physically imposing cavalry units of the Grande Armée. The tall bearskin headdress, red epaulettes, long sword, and carefully detailed equipment emphasize the prestige and battlefield authority of the Carabiniers. The Carabiniers were renowned for their strength, discipline, and shock tactics, serving as heavy cavalry alongside the cuirassiers during Napoleon’s major campaigns, including Austerlitz. Unlike lighter cavalry units, they were intended to break enemy lines through sheer force and momentum, a role reflected in the solid stance of the soldier and the powerful build of the horse. The composition balances military precision with quiet authority, reinforcing the elite status of this corps within Napoleon’s army. This print originates from *Histoire de l’Empereur Napoléon* by P.-M. Laurent de l’Ardèche, published in Paris in 1843, with illustrations after designs by Horace Vernet. Vernet was the foremost military art...
