George Condo’s Lost in Time is a striking example of the artist’s unique ability to blend the traditions of Old Master painting with the raw energy of contemporary abstraction. Known for his “psychological cubism,” Condo distorts and reassembles faces and figures into fractured, emotive compositions that are at once unsettling and humorous. In Lost in Time, Condo creates a work that feels suspended between eras—merging art historical echoes with modern chaos. The piece exemplifies his ongoing exploration of human psychology and the absurdities of modern life. Widely exhibited and highly sought-after, Lost in Time underscores Condo’s reputation as one of the most influential American artists of his generation. Bio: George Condo (b. 1957, Concord, New Hampshire) is a pioneering American painter and printmaker whose work redefined contemporary portraiture. After early stints in Andy Warhol’s Factory, Condo developed his own visual language—what he terms “artificial realism” or “psychological cubism.” His figures, often grotesque yet tender, fuse Renaissance draftsmanship with comic-strip distortion and Cubist fragmentation. Over the past four decades, Condo has exhibited at major institutions worldwide, including the New Museum (New York), Louis Vuitton Foundation (Paris), and Hayward Gallery (London). His works are housed in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Centre Pompidou, among others.
