About the Item

This original poster is from the three-act operetta, La Térésina, and was published in 1929. The story is from an adaptation by Mrs. Leon Uhl and Jean Marietti, with music by Oscar Strauss. The design was created by the French artist, Georges Dola, who created numerous posters and music covers for theater acts and preforming artists. Georges Dola (1872-1950) was born in Dole - a town in Eastern France. Dola's birth name was Edouard Vernier but he painted under the name of Georges Dola, having taken his name from his hometown. He was a painter, printer (specializing in lithography), and a graphic designer. He was also well known for his sheet music covers and his operetta poster works. He worked in Paris, mostly in the film and advertising industries. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

Loterie Nationale Original Vintage French Poster by Derouet Lesacq c1939
Located in Boca Raton, FL
This is one of a series of posters created for the Loterie Nationale (National Lottery) in France by a team of artists known as Derouet-Lesacq. In these posters, the element of simplicity is emphasized, allowing the artists to apply detail to the array of environments that these posters are set in. This Art Deco style poster is for a special Homemaking (Arts Menagers) lottery drawing. The man in the center of the image is shown lounging on a chair, presenting an unplugged chord, demonstrating comfort after his lottery win. The French Government promoted a nationwide lottery for many years, and during the 1930’s they commissioned artist Edgar Derouet to create many of their posters. Derouet realized his posters either alone or with one of his many collaborators. This poster is the result of a collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940. Edgar Derouet (1910-2001) is known for his simplistic, geometric and modern advertising posters for the French Lottery (Loterie Nationale). Derouet was selected by France to create a campaign for the Loterie Nationale because of his well-known reputation as a graphic artist. In his earlier days, Derouet studied with well-known poster artists Paul Colin and George Hamel, allowing him to further perfect his illustration technique. Derouet won an award for Best Poster of the Year in 1936 and was featured at the International Exposition in Paris, France in 1937. Charles Lesacq (1909-1940) was a French artist best known for his French National Lottery poster...
