About the Item

Hijack When They Shoot, We Shoot — 2020 Edition of 50 • Signed, Numbered 12 × 30 in / 30.5 × 76.2 cm Screenprint / Giclée (variant dependent) • Mint condition Description Condition This is an original # / 50 edition of When They Shoot, We Shoot by Hijack (2021). Each print is signed and numbered in pencil. The piece measures 12 × 30 inches and is executed in either screenprint on archival paper. Given its scarcity and that many variants are already sold out, this work represents a rare opportunity to secure one of the 50 original copies. Artist Background Hijack (b. approx. 1992) is the son and artistic successor to Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta). Though his lineage is well known, Hijack has forged a distinct voice in street and pop art, blending stencil, graffiti, typographic, and social critique elements. According to Art Brokerage, Hijack’s work is seen in global cultural hubs—Los Angeles, London, and beyond—and is celebrated for bringing youthful energy, poetical imagery, and bold messaging into the urban art conversation. Hijack emerged publicly in the early 2010s, building buzz with his first solo exhibitions (e.g. Never Too Young to Dream Big) and garnering attention through provocative stencils placed in public view. His oeuvre often engages with sociopolitical issues—inequality, surveillance, community, protest—while maintaining the pop-inflected visual vocabulary passed down from street art lineages. Influences Context When They Shoot, We Shoot is layered in both literal and rhetorical tension. The title echoes discourses of power, violence, and resistance—suggesting a visual counterpart or counter-shout to threatening authority. It engages the dynamic between image as weapon and image as witness. Police body cameras and the ever present cell phone camera have the potential to serve as a much-needed police oversight tool at a time of a growing recognition that the United States has a real problem with police violence. Formally, the work resonates with pop art, propaganda poster design, and urban stencil culture. Hijack’s technique reflects influence from stencil masters (Banksy, Blek le Rat), while his conceptual directness recalls artists such as Barbara Kruger or Jenny Holzer, where text and image merge to amplify critique.
