About the Item

Striking original exhibition poster created for Hiro Yamagata’s 1999 show at Marlborough Gallery, New York, featuring the artist’s iconic close-up portrait titled Elizabeth. Known for his bold use of color, layered surfaces, and high-gloss visual intensity, Yamagata transforms a single, open mouth into a powerful pop-infused image—both sensual and hyper-stylized. The palette of saturated pinks, reds, and metallic tones reveals the artist’s signature fusion of painting, graphic design, and digital experimentation at the end of the 20th century. Printed in the pre-digital poster era, this large-format piece showcases exceptional offset lithographic quality, capturing every nuanced highlight and reflective texture of the subject’s lips. The scale and visual impact make it an especially compelling example of Yamagata’s late-1990s work, when he was pushing the boundaries between fine art, commercial imagery, and contemporary culture. Highly collectible and rarely seen on the market, this poster is ideal for admirers of Pop Art, contemporary Japanese artists, and late-century Marlborough Gallery exhibitions. Photogenic, by Yuji Hiratsuka
By Yuji Hiratsuka
Located in Palm Springs, CA
Signed, titled, and numbered from the edition of 15. Image of a young girl with a bird perched on her head while someone takes her photo. While the images have some resemblance to traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, their sense of whimsy, satire and irony relate more closely to contemporary life and western sensibilities. Young women and their relationships to shoes, food, and fashion provide much of Hiratsuka’s subject matter. Another group of his prints focus on landscape, flowers, and floral patterns. Hiratsuka’s graphic work has been exhibited in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has received numerous awards in international competitions. During the last four years he has had 14 solo shows in the United States, and international solo shows in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Munich, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland. Partial list of public collections: The British Museum, UK Tokyo Central Museum, Japan Panstwowe Museum, Poland The House of Humor and Satire, Bulgaria Cincinnati Art Museum, OH Jundt Art Museum, WA The Portland Art...
