About the Item
Sander's interiors are always intriguing. This work also reads as a stage with a dance; it recalls the Porch of the Maidens at the Erectheum at the Acropolis in Athens. There of course the figures are caryatids. In Sanders print they are dancers who reach for the roof or support beam. Signed in pencil; titled in lower margin in pencil. This is a drypoint on chine collé.
