A atmospheric, sugar-lift aquatint showing a young woman partially clothed in a variety of different fabrics and seated beside a cat in a room strewn with shoes. To the left, a figure with a flamboyant hat is arriving.
An elegant use of a difficult medium by this North Carolina and San Francisco Bay Area artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jane Mellin later studied with Marvin Salzman and also with Joëlle Serve at 'ATELIER 63' in Paris where she exhibited her intaglio work at Galerie Boutet de Montvel in Montmartre. She has exhibited her paintings at the University of Carolina-Chapel Hill and is currently completing 'Marat in his Bathtub', in a "vaguely Abstract-Expressionist style".
