An atmospheric, sugar-lift aquatint showing a young woman seated at a claw foot table beneath a chandelier and gazing at a flower while a cat grooms itself. To the right, another figure observes the scene.
An elegant use of a difficult medium by this North Carolina and San Francisco Bay Area artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and who lived and painted for many years in San Francisco.
Jane Mellin later studied with Marvin Salzman and also with Joëlle Serve at 'ATELIER 63' in Paris where she exhibited her intaglio work at Galerie Boutet de Montvel in Montmartre. She has exhibited her paintings at the University of Carolina-Chapel Hill and is currently completing 'Marat in his Bathtub', in a "vaguely Abstract-Expressionist style".
