About the Item

This uplifting World War II Navy poster emphasizes unity between America’s servicemen and the home front workforce. A smiling sailor in uniform warmly shakes hands with a male industrial worker, while a woman in factory attire stands proudly between them. The bold headline declares: “I’m proud of YOU FOLKS too!” The image celebrates the contributions of civilian men and women who supported the war effort through production, shipbuilding, and industrial labor, underscoring that victory depended on the combined strength of those overseas and those at home. The artwork was created by Jon Whitcomb (1906–1988), a prominent American illustrator best known for his glamorous magazine art and advertising images of the mid-20th century. During the war, Whitcomb applied his skills to patriotic posters that conveyed optimism, pride, and encouragement. His clean, expressive style captured both realism and idealism, making his images instantly relatable and emotionally resonant. These qualities helped posters like this one strengthen morale and reinforce the essential bond between the fighting forces and the workers who equipped them. This is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
