About the Artist: Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884–1974) was a French painter, watercolorist, draughtsman, and printmaker whose lyrical naturalism, mastery of form, and devotion to craftsmanship made him one of the most respected and enduring figures of 20th-century French art. Born in Boussy-Saint-Antoine, near Paris, he studied at the Academie de la Palette and the Academie de La Grande Chaumiere, where he absorbed both classical techniques and the new ideas that were reshaping modern art. While contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, and Man Ray pursued radical experimentation in Cubism, abstraction, and Surrealism, Dunoyer de Segonzac followed a quieter yet profoundly original path rooted in direct observation, discipline, and a deep reverence for the natural world.
