About the Item
This beautiful original lithograph depicting a Greek landscape by Charles Lapicque was printed in Paris at the Atelier Mourlot in 1964. The artist produced some of his first landscape paintings in 1920, while continuing to work in a laboratory as an engineer, where he also researched color perception. He employed fragmented pictorial space, patches of color, and cursory outlines, Lapicque’s style most closely resembled that of Raoul Dufy. He finally abandoned his assistant position at the Faculté des Sciences in 1943 to devote himself entirely to his career as an artist.
This print is signed in pencil on the lower right in pencil and marked "epreuve d'artiste" (artists' proof) in pencil on the bottom left - this print is on Japan paper.
Ref. Balanci 208. Edition of 99 on Japan Paper.

About the Artist:
(1898-1988) French
Lapicque was a French painter whose work played a significant influential role in the development of post-modern art. Lapicque trained as an engineer at L’École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures and later fully dedicated himself to art in 1943. In the following years he created many vibrant painting, prints, and sculptures. His paintings use a mix of vibrant colors and palettes as well as multiple perspectives to reflect the scenes of his travels through Europe, a prime source of influence for him. Lapicque’s style of painting, which included portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and mythological scenes, paved the way for both pop art and narrative figuration.

In 1986, from the Lithographic Portfolio "Provence"
One of Mühl's major sources of creativity throughout his career was light. It was in the south of France that he found the intense, bright sunlight that inspired him most. In this series of original signed lithographs, the artist depicts the landscapes around his home in Provence. These works were created to illustrate texts and poems written by French author Marcel Pagnol.
Marcel Paul Pagnol was a French novelist, playwright, and filmmaker. He was born in 1895 in Aubagne, Provence. While he is still generally regarded as one of France's greatest 20th-century writers, he became the first filmmaker elected to the Académie française...
