About the Item
ncision by Emanuele Brugnoli (Bologna, 1859 - Venice, 1944), an artist trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under Valentino Solmi. Brugnoli is known for his production of watercolor views and etchings devoted mainly to the city of Venice, depicted with attention to architectural details and daily life.
The work depicts St. Mark's Square in Venice and shows St. Mark's Basilica with the bell tower in the background. In the square there are some walking figures. This is an etching made around the 1930s. The engraving measures 23.7 × 17.5 cm, while the complete sheet measures 44.8 × 31.6 cm. In the lower right corner appears the signature "E. Brugnoli inc." and on the left, in pencil, the title "48. St. Mark's Square."
The state of preservation is good. The present frame is not coeval with the work.
