About the Item
Nicolas Party (b. 1980) is a critically acclaimed Swiss artist best known for his distinct brand of stylized fantasy figuration. One of the most successful and youngest artists in the global art market, his auction record stands at $6.7 million achieved in 2022.
Depicting a range of subject matter from lush landscapes to stoic portraits, Party creates a celestial wonderland marked by confident compositions and his signature graphic style.
The full moon is a recurring motif throughout Party's oeuvre, enhancing the dreamlike quality of his otherworldly landscapes.
In this piece, soaring cypress trees stretch toward the moon, their grounded forms interconnected with the sky above. Despite the dark and infinite expanse, there is a palpable and boundless tie between the earth and the cosmos, rendered with incredible dynamism and a strong sense of wonder.
Today, Party's work is enjoyed in public collections across the globe including LACMA (Los Angeles), Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris), and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium (Brussels), to name a few.

Nicolas Party
Nicolas Party (born July 1, 1980, in Lausanne, Switzerland) is a Swiss visual artist. He lives and works in New York City and Brussels. He is known for his multi-media interdisciplinary immersive exhibitions. He received his BFA degree from the Lausanne School of Art in 2004 and his MFA from the Glasgow School of Art, in Glasgow, Scotland in 2009. Party's work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, the Magritte Museum in Brussels, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum. For his second exhibition at the Hirshorn Museum which ran from September 18, 2021 until the spring of 2022 he created his largest work to date Draw the Curtain, it "wraps 360 degrees around the temporary scaffolding that encases the Museum building and spans a circumference of 829 feet". It is an "original pastel painting digitally collaged and printed onto scrim". Party’s exhibition "When Tomorrow Comes" at the Museum Frieder Burda is the Swiss artist’s first museum presentation in Germany. Party' primary medium of choice is pastel. Party is represented by Hauser
Wirth, The Modern Institute, Kaufmann Repetto, Gregor Staiger, Karma and Xavier Hufkens. In February 2020 he had his first solo exhibition, "Scottsboro" with Hauser
Wirth at their Los Angeles, California venue. Among the artists Party cites as having influenced his painting are Rosalba Carriera, Félix Vallotton, Milton Avery, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio Morandi. Party's landscapes often draw from or even directly cite styles and motifs from a diverse set of contemporary painters and painters of previous generations, including Salvo, a similarity picked up at a number of exhibitions.

By General Idea
Located in Toronto, Ontario
In 1967, General Idea was founded in Toronto by AA Bronson (b. 1946), Felix Partz (1945-1994), and Jorge Zontal (1944-1994). Over the course of 25 years, they made a significant contribution to postmodern and conceptual art in Canada and beyond.
The group was both prolific and multi-disciplinary long before it became de rigueur. They use photography, sculpture, painting, mail art, video, installation, multiples, and performance.
With their subversive approach and interest in parody and appropriation, General Idea addressed a broad range of social (and art-world) issues such as the cult of the artist, mass media, queer identity, and consumerism.
Thematic continuity was a key element in General Idea's work. Early on they introduced talismans or logos that they would revisit and re-envision, including skulls, ziggurats, and poodles.

About the artist:
Born in Twin Falls Idaho, his family immediately moved to Monte Vista, Colorado where he lived until age 12. Many of the idyllic memories of this childhood inform his imagination and enter into his work. Moving from a very small farming and ranching community, he was plunged into the crazed consumer culture of Southern California. He lived in La Mesa, California and watched as the entire face of America changed with Vietnam, rampant divorce, and then the summer of love. He attended Grossmont College and immersed himself in art. Seeking to escape the drug crazed beach culture, he set out for northern California.
Kelly attended Cal State University at Hayward where he studied with Mel Ramos, Raymond Saunders, Harold Schlotzhauer, Misch Kohn, Kenji Nanao and Clayton Bailey...
