About the Item
New York City native Oscar Weissbuch (1904-1948), attended the Yale University School of Fine Arts and the Art Students League, NY. He participated in the NYC-WPA printmaking project.
Weissbuch was particularly skilled in the relief print processes producing complex wood engravings such as Westchester Hills showing here, llnocut and color relief prints for which a different block is usually required for every color.
This work is signed and titled in pencil. It was published by the NYC-WPA in an edition of 25. An impression is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At nearly 8 x 10 inches it is quite large for 1930s wood engraving and it packs a wallop!
