About the Item

The harsh reality of battle is not often seen in recruiting posters for WWII. This Amos Sewell poster for 1945 depicts an injured solider, head bowed, with artillery shells framing his tired body. The slogan of "Miles of Hell to Tokyo" seems appropriate here, and it highlights the fatigue and languishing experienced at the waning years of the long war.Amos Sewell (1901-1983) began his working life as a banker who took illustration classes at night. He went on to become one of the Saturday Evening Post's most popular illustrators, alongside Norman Rockwell. Sewell created many posters for the War Effort, and this is considered one of his strongest images from that era. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
