STATEMENT I use content from verse, theology, science, science-fiction and history in paintings, prints and artists books. Faced with a sense of racing time, I feel very attracted to the contemplative potential in the slow reveal of the page… there seems to be more thinking time allowed here than on a gallery wall or in a tiny screen. My new work explores landscape with an emphasis on geology. Rocks and fossils act both as calendars of the past and also perform as the very current archivists of our present – both roles add perspectives that meet and mitigate comprehension. The visual influences informing my work shown here; Durer, Palmer, Ruskin and even Cornell- join writers like MacFarlane, Sheldrake and Powers in their use of landscape as key and classroom.
