About the Item
This exquisite original poster was produced for the 1992 retrospective exhibition of Gustav-Adolf Mossa (1883–1971), held at the Pavillon des Arts in Paris from June 19 to September 27. The exhibition offered a rare dive into the opulent and often haunting world of the French Symbolist and Decadent movement, showcasing Mossa’s darkly poetic oeuvre from 1903 to 1918.
The featured image, Les Parques (1905), embodies Mossa’s fascination with allegory, mythology, and femme fatale archetypes. Inspired by the mythological Fates of antiquity, the painting blends meticulous detail with psychological unease. Mossa’s visual universe was steeped in Art Nouveau flourishes, literary references, and the cultural malaise of the fin-de-siècle.
The poster itself is a masterful reflection of the period’s visual language—hypnotic, ornate, and charged with a sense of decadent beauty. It’s more than a promotional piece: it’s a collectible tribute to one of France’s most enigmatic Symbolist painters.
A coveted addition for collectors of exhibition graphics, Symbolist art, or turn-of-the-century illustration.
