About the Item

Original 1939 The Saturday Evening Post newsstand vintage poster. Archival linen backed in excellent condition. Never folded and no restoration. Grade A. Rare and charming original newsstand advertising poster for The Saturday Evening Post, dated November 4, 1939 (Volume 212, Number 19). This iconic piece features Norman Rockwell's celebrated cover illustration (1894–1978). Here is a moment shared by a county sheriff and a young criminal -- the former moved to tears by his prisoner’s soulful harmonica music. The old sheriff is sitting on a stool with his dog chained next to him, a shotgun in his hands and a set of keys hanging from his wrist. The issue featured the story of Helen Hayes. She was an American actress best known for being one of only two women to have received all four entertainment awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. The accomplished entertainer acted from age 5 to 85. Produced by the Curtis Publishing Company, these large-format posters were displayed at newsstands nationwide to promote the latest issue of the nation's most popular magazine. Rockwell's masterful storytelling captures the humor, nostalgia, and small-town Americana that defined his legendary career, during which he created over 300 covers for The Saturday Evening Post from 1916 to 1963. A timeless slice of 20th-century cultural history, evoking the warmth and wit of Rockwell's enduring vision of American life. Ships rolled in a secure tube; worldwide shipping available. Each poster includes a Certificate of Authenticity. We use sturdy, appropriate packaging to ensure it arrives safely. We strive to provide the most accurate and detailed descriptions and conditions of the artwork online. #NormanRockwell #SaturdayEveningPost

"Starstruck" by Norman Rockwell Media: Lithograph on Paper Image Dimensions: 30" x 24" Year Produced: 1976 Edition Size: 200 Numbered (1-200), 60 Artist proof Edition Number: 140/200 Signed and Numbered in pencil by the artist Condition: In excellent Norman Rockwell was an American painter and illustrator known for his iconic depictions of American culture created for The Saturday Evening Post. With a range of favorite subjects that included nuclear families, mischievous children, and small-town life, his work has achieved an iconic status: the 1943 painting of a Thanksgiving dinner, Freedom from Want, has been reproduced and parodied countless times in contemporary culture. As an artist, Rockwell has had a lasting effect on US society beyond any singular work, with his paintings seen as indelible images that went on to inspire American directors such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and particularly Robert Zemeckis, whose 1994 film Forrest Gump recreates several of Rockwell’s paintings as scenes throughout the film. Though he enjoyed success throughout his career, Rockwell’s idyllic and sentimental outlook on American society was not necessarily embraced by art critics, though his later politically activist work garnered praise for its tackling of controversial subjects. Born on February 3, 1894 in New York, NY, he went on to study at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League. Rockwell notably had a longstanding relationship with the Boy Scouts of America...
