Original 1922 Swedish Silent Film Poster: "James Farrell, Gentleman." This striking original Swedish stone lithograph poster promotes the American silent detective film James Farrell, Gentleman (released in Sweden as a "detektivfilm"), starring veteran actor Frank Keenan in the title role.
Dated 1922 and printed by Lito Svenska Konstindustri, this rare piece captures the dramatic intensity of early-cinema promotion. The bold design features a large, brooding portrait of the gentleman detective, with piercing eyes and a commanding presence, set against a vivid red background. Graphic elements include a dynamic black film reel bursting with energy and elegant blue title banners in classic Swedish typography.
Distributed in Sweden by A.B. Skandias Filmbyrå in Stockholm, this poster exemplifies the artistic quality of early 20th-century Scandinavian film advertising, in which lithography produced vibrant, high-impact visuals that drew audiences to the silent screen.
The theater issued fold marks were laid down but still somewhat visible. There is some ink missing from the printing at the top right. Printing scuff marks on the left side of the man’s cheek, but this also appears on copies in museums.
A rare survivor from the silent era, this poster offers a captivating glimpse into 1920s cinema history and Swedish graphic design. Ideal for collectors of early Hollywood exports, detective-genre artwork, or Scandinavian posters. Swedish silent-era posters from the 1920s, especially for obscure films, rarely come up for sale. Currently, this will be the only original copy of this poster available for sale.
The US original title is “The Phantom.” Director: Charles Gibleyn. The Swedish movie poster is dated 1922; however, the film was released in the USA in 1916.

Printed in stunning stone lithography, this extremely rare poster was designed by prolific poster artist Eric Rohman for the original Swedish release of the action-packed 1926 American silent comedy 'For Heaven's Sake,' starring Harold Lloyd - one of the biggest stars of the silent era. After several years at Pathé, Lloyd made his debut at Paramount with this delightful slapstick classic, in which his trademark go-getting 'glasses' character appears as Uptown Boy J. Harold Manners, a millionaire playboy who falls for a Downtown Girl. With a dazzling finale featuring a double-decker bus careering through the city streets, the comedy of thrills was one of Lloyd's most successful films and the 12th highest grossing film of the silent era.
