Rene Gruau (1909-2004) is one of the most recognized poster artists of the 21st Century. Gruau was a fashion illustrator whose distinctive portrayal of fashion design through painting has had a lasting effect on the fashion industry. Gruau used simplicity of lines and crisp color, particularly, blacks, reds, and yellows to create his images. His lively and elegant technique suits many tastes and an array of decor styles.
This charming image was created in 1951 by Rene Gruau and was published on the cover of Club Magazine in Europe. The image was also used as the front cover of the book Gruau, Portraits of Men published in 2012 by Assouline. This hand-signed and numbered print by Rene Gruau has been expertly printed on high quality, fine art deckled edge paper. It was printed in an edition of 300 with 45 Artists Proofs. It is in excellent condition.

René Gruau, an Italian-born artist who made his name in Paris and New York as an illustrator for fashion houses, women's magazines, nightclubs and ballet companies. René Gruau astounds us simply by the immensity of his work, his modernity, his simplicity and his utter elegance. He is a virtuoso performer of the greatest names in fashion, the most prestigious brands, the most colourful shows. but the artist has the elegance to stay behind his works. His talent and his highly personal style shine through... In the 1990's there were exhibitions of his work in Germany, Japan, Monaco and France. The largest retrospective was organized by the Advertising Museum in Paris in 1999. It was called, simply, ''Passionately Gruau.''
