About the Item
This evocative 1950 original lithograph by celebrated New Mexico artist Kenneth Miller Adams offers a hauntingly beautiful moonlit view of the iconic San Francisco de Asís Mission Church in Ranchos de Taos—one of the most enduring and sought-after subjects in Southwestern art. Adams captures the church’s sculptural adobe forms with refined tonal contrasts, creating a quiet, meditative scene that reflects the stillness and mystery of the desert night.
Printed on quality paper and signed by Adams in the lower right with the title inscribed in the lower left, this authenticated work showcases the artist’s mastery of light, atmosphere, and regional architecture. The subtle gradations of shadow and the soft glow of moonlight speak to Adams’ deep connection to New Mexico’s landscape and cultural heritage.
The lithograph is beautifully showcased in a new custom frame, featuring natural birch molding, a luxurious 16-ply antique-white deep-bevel mat, and UV70 protective glass for long-term preservation and display.
A striking addition to any collection of Southwestern art, Taos art, desert landscapes, or American modernism, this piece embodies the poetic elegance and historical significance of one of the Southwest’s most beloved architectural landmarks.

Kenneth Miller Adams
Kenneth Miller Adams was born in Kansas and first started his art career in Topeka in 1913. He studied with artist, G.M. Stone, whose instruction became the basis for his formal education that began three years later at the Art Institute of Chicago. After serving in WWI, he moved to New York City to study at the Art Students League. Soon after completing his courses there, Adams moved abroad to study Italian and French art. In 1924, Adams was back in Kansas, where friend and fellow artist Andrew Dasburg encouraged him to move to New Mexico. Adams settled in Taos, and remained there for the next twelve years. He was the youngest and last member of the Taos Society of Artists. Adams became a professor at the University of New Mexico in Taos in 1929. In 1938, he moved to Albuquerque after receiving a Carnegie Corporation Grant, becoming the first artist-in-residence at the University of New Mexico. He went on to teach at the university for the next 25 years, attaining the rank of full professor in 1963. He passed way in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1966.
