About the Item
Introducing "Tiananmen Bear" (grey), TABBY's newest creation. This piece measures 15 3/4 × 19 3/4 in (40 × 50.2 cm) and is a limited edition of only 15 pieces. It is spray painted and stenciled on a finely woven canvas panel mounted to a wooden background.
The inspiration for this piece comes from the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing, China. The image of the lone protester standing in front of a tank has become an iconic symbol of peaceful protest and defiance against government oppression. In "Tiananmen Bear," TABBY has reimagined the tank driver as a bear, a nod to his playful and whimsical style. The bear, in military uniform, looks down at the lone protestor with a stern expression on its face.
TABBY's work is heavily influenced by street art and graffiti culture, as well as political and social issues. His pieces often carry a strong message and challenge the viewer to think about the world around them. In "Tiananmen Bear," he is not only paying tribute to a historic moment but also drawing attention to the ongoing struggles for democracy and human rights in many parts of the world.
