About the Item

This reproduction of De Kaartspelers (The Card Players) by Theo van Doesburg was published in the Netherlands by Art Unlimited. The original painting, created between 1916 and 1917, is part of the permanent collection of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. In this composition, van Doesburg captures four figures immersed in a card game, emphasizing angular forms and simplified structures that reflect his early engagement with Cubism. This piece also marks van Doesburg’s gradual shift toward abstraction, preceding his foundational role in the De Stijl movement. The bold contours and fragmented geometry offer a glimpse into the artist’s evolving visual language, merging figuration with a modernist aesthetic.
