Beautiful advertising poster for Vittel water.
Vittel has been a spa town since Gallo-Roman times.
On December 13, 1854, Louis Bouloumié bought the Gérémoy spring, reputed to be diuretic, and an 80-acre meadow in Vittel in the Vosges from the farmer Charles Rifflard. He had noticed the benefits of mineralized waters during cures he had made in Vittel and Contrexéville in 1852, 1853 and 1854.
In 1855, he obtained government authorization to exploit the spring. The following year, he created the Vittel spa. In order to allow people to continue their treatment at home, he had the idea of bottling Vittel mineral water.
Vittel is a brand of French bottled mineral water with a medium mineral content that has been owned by Nestlé Waters, the water division of the multinational food company Nestlé, since 1992.
